Laser Treatment of Keloids

Keloid scars are hypertrophic scars that extend beyond the boundaries of the original wound or incision and gradually appear after skin injury. The skin becomes raised and red, often accompanied by itching, and they are caused by a predisposition of the body that affects the healing process. If a person has developed a keloid, it is likely to recur after a subsequent injury or invasive treatment.

Laser treatment of keloids

Keloids are not suitable for surgical re-excision, as such an approach will fail. Keloids require specialized management techniques, since a new surgical procedure will not resolve the issue and, on the contrary, will worsen it.

Our Center is equipped with the KTP Laser Aura, specifically designed for the treatment of keloid scars. It is applied with absolute safety and extensive experience, even in children from the age of 4, with very good results. The scar is treated with the laser either in its entirety or in sections if it is extensive, and it gradually disappears over the following 2–3 months. In some cases, repetition of the procedure is necessary to eliminate any residual tissue.

The treatment is performed without anesthesia in the clinic.

Additionally, keloid treatment can be carried out with injections of a special form of cortisone (triamcinolone) directly into the keloid, 2–3 times, resulting in gradual reduction until its final disappearance.
